Total nine parameters are for completing the goal such as vision, problem, resources, project’s goal, project strategy, contingency plan, evaluation plan, budget, and project proposal.

Project design is generally used in every department across every industry, construction industries are no different.  Construction Project Management defines the accountability of the project manager with the experience of someone related to the construction industry. We are here to learn about how this is different from the other industry project management, how the manager in the construction industry manages all these factors, and what building manager does during the start and completion of the project.

What is Construction Project Management?

Construction Project Manager is usually referred as CM, which is professional service. However, Managers are very important term to manage any project from initiatives to completion stage, but nowhere is the place manager could be important than construction industry. The manager working in construction type industries need an extra set of skills and knowledge that other industries’ manager posses like industry knowledge and require experience. After all, they are to build secure and efficient structures like hospitals, schools, and industries. They keep watching on the project from start (pre-designed stage) to the end process (closeout). After watching this one of the key features the Telegraph calls the role “Most important throughout the project in progress” this is what the construction manager does.

According to CMMA (Construction Management Association of America), The CM is always responsible for cooperating with and providing appropriate inspection to the investors in the project, including the owner, the designers, the architects, the contractors, sub-contractors, and trade contractors.  The CM is very responsible in the Construction Management Program as it leads the team of construction specialists- all members from architects and interior designers to contractor, subcontractor, and construction worker.

There are mainly seven branches of construction, which includes following-

  • Agriculture
  • Institutional
  • Residential
  • Commercial
  • Industrial
  • Environmental
  • Heavy Civil

That means there is a wide variety of construction project that requires a perfect Design Construction Management. It might be required for building a small house to constructing a large bridge, from architecting a dam to an airport seismic retrofit project. So, Construction Manager, then, manages from beginning to end of the project build.

Despite being very close to each other, the Project Design Management and Construction Management Project are different in various aspects. There are a number of key differences between the two types of management.

Construction Projects are generally managed by large industries that have large customer base suits. Sometimes, these companies offer services such as financing, purchasing material option, and construction support, rather than just building and managing a construction project.

CM doesn’t require a project manager on the site every time. Opposite to Project Management, the usual protocol is Manager will come onto the project’s site from time to time and check the progress.

Project Management allows for more space in the owner’s management having control over all the aspects. Owner tends to feel more satisfied with this high-technology system that got over the project.

From the Construction Project Management owner always feels satisfy for him and clients because they don’t need to more control. Construction Management takes care of these decisions.

Construction Project Management Phases:

There will be various stages of responsibilities for a Construction Manager. This includes the following-

Project Design- The design stage can be seen as planning of project. From the starting, it is one of the main responsibilities of PM to design the build process. In the building management, programming and feasibility, schematic design, design development, and contract documents are involved in the stage of design. This means producing the critical path and discreet the timing of all the phases. Executing each step of the project is very important in ensuring that the project will be complete on time.

Resource Determination- Completing any stage of project resource allocation is an essential point. It is the responsibility of CM to complete this major important stage. Any building project needs resources from bricks, sands, and mortar to necessary tools and fundamental amenities. These things are provided by the CM by allocating to the specialist in building construction management.

Team Management- A skilled team of construction skilled can collaborate to complete the construction project task on time. You will have a team of experienced architects, interior designers, trade contractors, wall painters, and construction workers. The Project Manager keeps responsibility to recruit an appropriate team to complete the project task. The construction PM is the one in charge managing the team and allocating the task.

Ongoing Monitoring- This is one of the responsibilities of Design Construction Management. It sets a benchmark by keeping eyes for ensuring the project progress through each phase successfully, on time, and on budget.

Budget Management- Project Manager will be responsible for the financial planning and monitoring of the whole project.  For avoiding over budget, it should have knowledge of unplanned work and keeping avert this. The PM should think continually forecasting, keeping the team informed, and changes, and leading the resources meticulously.

The Key Principles of Building Project Management:

Building Project Management requires a wide set of key skills with the ability to interface various sectors of agencies and people with experience to lead from project design to physical interface. It needs a site manager who can understand and use the principles of Building Project Management. It’s essential for the manager to follow the basic rule of each phase of the project to be successful on time.

Beginning and initiating the Project:

First of all, you will have to think that are you able to finish it? You can’t begin unless you will be able to complete the work. It comes to devotion regarding work to determine if the work is feasible. You will have to figure out such issues. You would like to go through a feasibility study or what is called the business case, in which you will see at your goals, timeline, and cost for seeing that you have good enough resources to complete the task. You will even identify potential and risks in this phase.

Additionally, this will have to detail the cost, duration, scope, quality, and communication used in the project.

Launch the Project:

Now execute the project, taking the plan and implementing it, along with the issues and changes that can arise in such a procedure. Whatever you promised must come through the timeframe you noted. Now you are all set to deal with the stakeholders, clients, and construction team. The task must be completed. Now the responsibilities will be for allocation management and resource allocation. You just need to do meeting and reporting in this stage of the project.  This is where your Project Design Management tool will be tested.

Track Project Progress:

You must have a way to monitor the progress of your project. However, you would be doing this in the previous stages, but you must have separate monitoring way. You would like to have a way to note the progress report, because you will need to set up key performance indicators for time, cost, and construction quality.
